Screaming Pelicans FC start the season with a W!
Screaming Pelicans FC began the 2009/2010 season with some new faces and the goal to be tops in the table by year end. The first match of the season saw SPFC square off against a newly demoted D1 Ouzo squad. The rivalry between SPFC and Ouzo has a long history that even includes a semi-final match in Charleston between the 2 clubs that Ouzo lost. This time would be no different as the SPFC side came out pushing the attack and dominating for the most part of the first 60 minutes. As the match lingered neither team could find the net until the 74th minute when Lawrence Monroe bent a shot to the back upper 90 from left side of the 18 yard box. SPFC took the lead and would hold on fending off a flurry of attacks against a strong Ouzo side that was determined to get the equalizer. In the end SPFC notched its first win on the season in its first match and looks to build on this as the team faces off against Sting Select next week.
Screaming Pelicans FC notch 7th victory on the season!
It was not our best performance yesterday, but it wasn’t the best conditions either! Once again we were able to play well enough to get a victory. Overall a well played game by the defense helping earn the 2nd clean sheet of the season and a great early goal by Mike Lamond. The early goal proved to be the difference maker that saw plenty of opportunities come up short during the remainder of the match. United played a spirited game fighting for the equalizer, but were not able to find it behind a solid performance by Weber, Luq, Sean and Justin. Bob and Ivan played well in the central midfield and newly signed Pelican FC player, Felipe, utilized his speed to help setup the first goal with great attacking run down the left flank and continued to do so for most of the match.
Short handed Pelicans suffer defeat
Screaming Pelicans played short handed against a Majestic side that was ripe for the taking. Starting with 10 players and an injured forward in net was not the recipe for a victory. The match saw the Screaming Pelicans FC side drop to 9 players for 25 minutes in the first half with an injury to Jay Hornback. Down only 3-1 at the half the Pelican side continued to fight and were back to 10 players to start the 2nd half. The first play of the 2nd half saw a long range strike from Bob Tzankov off the whistle, but a short handed Pelican side was not able to keep up the pressure and ended down 6-2 in match they could have won.
Screaming Pelicans FC draw with G Tech FC
Not our best performance overall as a team, but definitely a great performance by the defense who limited G Tech’s opportunities. The game went back and forth with much of the game played in the middle of the field. We went down early on G Tech’s only real shot on goal that went low and far post. The matched continued late in to the 2nd half still at 1-0 until a long throw into the box by Josh Abebe saw the G Tech keeper come out and miss the ball as it was flicked on where Mike Lamond was able to head home the tying goal for his 2nd on the season. We continued to push well to look for the match winner, but were unable to secure the 3 points. Great fight to the end.
