Shorthanded, Pelicans pull off a point

Posted by Mike Skurski on Oct 15 2010 at 01:03PM PDT in October 2010 to March 2011

In the record setting heat, the shorthanded Pelicans Blue squad was able to manage their 1st point of the 2010/2011 campaign. Starting with 10, the Pelicans gained possession against the Sting squad taking a quick 1-0 lead with a well-worked goal by Bryan Holloway. Pretty sure every Pelican player touched the ball before the goal, so everyone is awarded with an assist. Even a man down, the Pelicans dominated the run off first half play & jumped out to a 3-0 lead with quality finishes from Lonnie McGlone & Sam Hamilton. Losing focus for a minute after the 3rd goal, Sting moved the ball to the Pelicans’ 18 & off a well placed finish, Sting got one back right before the half. Heading into halftime with a 2 goal lead, Pelicans felt confident, but starting to hallicinate from the heat. In the 2nd half, Sting came out on fire, netting a PK given within the 2nd minute & a breakaway shortly thereafter. With the score level, each team peppered the net with multiple opportunities to secure the full 3 pts. However, with some brilliant saves from the Pelicans GK, Aaron Ingram, it stayed level until the final whistle. Drained & exhausted, the Pelicans were upset to lose the lead, but being a man down the entire time, they were content to walk away with a point. Let’s learn from this & work on putting teams away. Moving forward, the Braves season is over, so we ought to field a full team. Couple subs, if you’re lucky.
