Marietta, GA (March 7, 2010) – Decimated by injuries and out of towners, Screaming Pelicans fell 5-2 on Sunday against the younger Georgia Tech FC club. Screaming put in a gritty performance, and relied on new recruits Brel Clark and Richard Howard to provide some firepower up front and strength in the back respectively. The game was 0-0 late into the first half, with both teams getting some good chances, but nobody could find the back of the net. Former SPFC players Ivan the Terrible and Mexican Mike Ely anchored the midfield for Tech, but could not start anything for the home team. Steve Cantonis stood on his head the whole match, making several point blank saves when GT was already celebrating, but Tech finally broke through late in the first half, beating the offside trap and finishing via a headed cross. Down 1-0 at the half, Pelicans came out looking to equalize, but a botched call by the center ref changed the tone early, when a Tech forward had a beautiful give and go to himself off his hand lead to an easy tap in goal. The ref mentioned that he didn’t feel the forward gained an advantage by knocking the ball down with his hand, stunning all around him.

Pelicans continued to fight hard despite this set back, and pulled back a goal through a great through pass from Aleks to target man Brel, and a clinical finish, the first of two on the day. An unfortunate tweak of a bad ankle sent Bryce to the bench early minutes later, and left Pelicans with no more subs for the day. Tech used their youth and speed to their advantage and took control with 3 late goals before Brel finished low to the corner when fed by Luq on a perfect counter attack.

Screaming will look to get back on track this Sunday at Agnes Scott (1pm) against a Wings team that has been in a tailspin of their own. The new recruits will look to take out some frustration on their former teammates, and the return of other injured starters should prove to be enough to put the Pelicans back in the win column.

Those guys suck, and they will continue to feed off of the rotting flesh of our clansmen. We must unite, and come as one to defeat them in our next encounter. Bring your swords and shields, it’s going to be a war.
